An Invitation For Stillness
May 2024
Takeo, Japan
The paintings completed during Takagishi's 4 week stay at Arts Itoya comprise the collection "An Invitation for Stillness". These paintings reflect on senses of home but also feelings of otherness as a yonsei Japanese American returning to her ancestral homeland. The work highlights anachronistic vestiges of Japanese culture, and contemplates the foreign feeling of rediscovering your own culture. This collection of paintings additionally aims to immerse the viewer in ephemeral moments, meant to capture the unique slow pace of living in Takeo, or "Takeo time".

Seesha Takagishi is a multi-disciplinary artist based in San Francisco, CA. Her paintings depict landscapes of memories and psychological states. Epitomizing the eye of the beholder, these works invite the viewer to wander in Takagishi's psyche. She is also the founder of the Family Style Collective, an Asian American arts collective focused on using creative expression to explore cultural identity.
