Seesha Takagishi is a Japanese American scientist and self-taught artist, based in San Francisco, CA. She uses painting, illustration, and textile arts to explore cultural identity, particularly related to the liminal space occupied by individuals with a mixed-race background, and the challenge this presents to create bridges between cultures. A representative term for Seesha's art could be “post-oriental”, highlighting the efforts of younger generations of Asian Americans to define, celebrate, and evolve their own culture, through illustrating intentional communities and capturing everyday beauty. She is also the founder of the Family Style Collective, an Asian American arts collective focused on using creative expression to explore cultural identity.
